Famous cars from Maranello all lined up at the bottom of the hill such as the Ferrari F40 LM, Ferrari 250 GTO, and Ferrari LaFerrari. Basically, it was one of the most expensive traffic jams in the world. Seeing a collection of cars like this would’ve been enough for some but then seeing and hearing them drive up the hill with some gusto and verve was something else.
The cars would do two runs up the Hill every day, giving spectators plenty of opportunity to see some of the most exotic Ferraris and cars they would’ve had as posters on their bedroom walls drive by right in front of them. For many, like myself, it was the first time seeing many of the cars there such as the 250 GTO, 333 SP, and FXX K in person let alone driving spiritedly up one of the
most famous hillclimbs in the world.
That’s what makes Goodwood unique. It’s not only a chance to see some of the rarest cars in the world in person but also a chance to see them getting driven. Many of these cars will get locked away in collections and museums but this is their chance to let loose.
Unsurprisingly, the schedule throughout the weekend was quite busy. Each day the schedule changes as well as the lineup of cars that make their way up the Hill. Even though most runs are held multiple times throughout the day, some cars only go up once a day. Or even once through
out the whole weekend as was the case with the Pagani Zonda Oliver Evolution.
No big deal though because there were still plenty of supercars to ogle at as they made their way up the hill. Before doing so, in order to line up on the start line the cars had to make their way down to the bottom of the start straight and turnaround.
Of course, with some of the best drivers in the world behind the wheel of some of the best supercars, there were a few flamboyant u-turns happening. More often than not cars would ‘warm up’ their tires by doing a donut or two at the bottom before making their way to the start line.
Silly and unnecessary? Very but it sure was entertaining and the crowds loved it. It was also great to see new cars such as the BMW M4 CS, McLaren 720S, and Lamborghini Huracan Performante
show off their capabilities of destroying rubber. The four-wheel drive Lamborghini even smoked its front tires too.
