On Friday night Mercedes was forced to break the curfew to work on the car of Bottas. The mechanics had to change the new engine and put an old engine in, that had already disputed four races. While a failure in the engine of Vettel in free practice 3 would make his mechanics work quickly to have the car ready for classification.
In this way, we arrived at the qualifying session. A qualifying session of the best of this season. Hamilton knew he had to beat Vettel if he wanted victory. The Englishman mounted the prime tire in his second stint to reach the end of race with the soft tire and be able to overtake Vettel. A successful strategy of the Mercedes team that could not overtake the Ferrari in the pits. Both drivers staged a nice fight when Vettel left the pits.
