Column 2017 July 3

The Azerbaijan Grand Prix left us with the first tense moment between the two major contenders for the drivers' championship. It is one of the most controversial incidents of the season. A week has passed after the incident on track between three-time world champion Lewis Hamilton and four-time champion Sebastian Vettel, but despite the time that has passed, it remains a relevant issue.

Everyone has wanted to give their opinion, there have been comments of support or rejection inside and outside the paddock of Formula 1. The truth is that we all wonder what happened in the head of Vettel to steer his car against Hamilton. Does the German feel pressured to win with the Ferrari team, since he hasn`t won any championship outside of Red Bull? Maybe he needs to prove he can win without the superiority of Milton Keynes's team, with whom he won four world titles. What is clear is that the FIA has not seen the Vettel maneuver well. Despite his penalty in Baku, the FIA will meet to decide whether to impose any further sanctions on the Ferrari driver.

But it has not been the only big news of the week. Ron Dennis, former CEO of McLaren, sold all his shares of the company he had of the McLaren group. Thus, closing a thirty-seven-year chapter of Formula 1. Having won great victories for his team with men like Niki Lauda, Alain Prost, Ayrton Senna, Mika Hakkinen and Lewis Hamilton. One more big change for the new stage of this sport.

The man who has a difficult role is Zak Brown, Ron Dennis's successor as CEO of Mclaren. For the first time this season his team got their two cars to finish the race, also with one of them in the points. But they have had to pass nine Grands Prix for this to happen. This is the reason why the relationship with Honda is deteriorating. The team's concern to lose Fernando Alonso is getting bigger, even Bernie Ecclestone did not hide in saying that he would like to see the Spanish again in Ferrari.

The one who has also continued to receive criticism is Lance Stroll. The Canadian driver got his first podium in Baku. He has been criticized all season, Stroll thought that the only bad thing that could happen to him to gain the third position was to drink of the shoe of Ricciardo. But no, they have not missed the criticism for losing the second position at the last moment. The same Jacques Villeneuve did not hesitate to declare that the pilot of Williams has arrived too soon to Formula 1.
