Column 2017 August 6

This week was the beginning of the summer break for Formula 1. We will have to wait for the Belgian Grand Prix to see the cars on track again. But after all, Formula 1 has not gone on vacation without leaving something for us to talk about.

There was a Formula 1 test that took place at the Hungaroring circuit this past week, taking advantage of the fact that the teams were there after the Hungarian Grand Prix. However, all the attention was on Robert Kubica. The Polish driver had to leave Formula 1 in 2011 after a terrible rally accident. The pilot had tested but with 2012 cars. It was the first time that he was driving a car from 2017, which are more aggressive, faster and have the biggest ailerons and tires.

Kubica completed the second day of testing with the Renault R.S.17, being the seventh fastest in the morning and in the afternoon he was the fourth fastest. His best time was 1.18.572. The Polish was making his personal program to see if he can drive the new Formula 1 cars and if he can be a candidate for a seat as a principal driver in 2018. After six and a half years later, Kubica had proved to be an example of fighting and personal improvement to return to the sport he loves so much.

Those who were victorious from these tests were the Ferrari. They got the best time on the first and second test days. The first day was in the hands of the leader of the Formula 2 championship, Charles Leclerc. He said he felt very comfortable in the Ferrari car.

The second day was Vettel who got the best time for the Italian team. While the Mclaren, in the hands of the British Lando Norris, obtained the second best position, very near the time of the German. Although his best lap was with ultrasoft tires and Vettel with supersoft tire.

In the Mclaren team they are very satisfied with the performance of the youngster Lando Norris. As a prize for winning the Mclaren Autosport BRDC Award 2016, he had the honor of driving on the second day of the test. He satisfactorily completed the test, receiving praise from the director of Mclaren Eric Boullier.
